Febreze Air Duster commercialized by Nottingham Spirk for P&G

Nottingham Spirk has long been a trusted innovation partner for Procter & Gamble (P&G), collaborating on market-defining products like the Swiffer Sweep+Vac. So, when P&G came up with the concept of cleaning indoor air using advanced Swiffer materials, they turned to Nottingham Spirk's fully integrated design process to move the idea from concept to commercialization. Utilizing the Swiffer technology would allow for a low-cost air filter that could rival the performance of more expensive HEPA filters.

Drawing on our expertise across consumer insights, industrial design, engineering, packaging design, and sourcing, Nottingham Spirk entered into a strategic partnership with P&G to commercialize the innovation. The team set out to refine and develop a quiet, efficient, and affordable air filtration solution that would leverage both the Swiffer technology—typically associated with floor care—and the trusted Febreze brand.

Nottingham Spirk was provided with an early prototype of the Febreze Air Duster and tasked with reducing production costs while maintaining product efficacy. Through a combination of design optimization to enhance shipping efficiency and close collaboration with manufacturing partners, we successfully transformed the concept into a commercially viable product, ready for market.

Bringing the Febreze Air Duster to Market

Nottingham Spirk’s in-house branding team developed the comprehensive suite of packaging, point-of-purchase (POP) displays, and marketing collateral essential for the product's market introduction. To bring the innovation to life, we collaborated with H2B Group, a leading manufacturer of home fans and other household products, to conduct testing and support the final product launch. This strategic partnership ensured a seamless transition from concept to product launch.

The Results

The Febreze Air Duster effectively captures 99% of seasonal allergens and visible dust, providing continuous air filtration through Swiffer’s proprietary triple-layer technology. By removing pet dander, dust, and allergens from the air, the device delivers fresher, cleaner air synonymous with the Febreze brand. Air is drawn in by a fan, where particles are trapped in the filter, while clean air is circulated throughout the room. This process not only improves air quality but also helps reduce dust accumulation on surfaces, contributing to a cleaner home environment.
